About Dr. David W. Wang

Dr. Wang has a practice emphasis on minimally invasive surgery (arthroscopy) and reconstructive surgery of the shoulder, elbow, and knee. He earned his medical degree at Duke University Medical School in 2003, and continued at Duke University Medical Center to complete his orthopaedic surgery residency. He then pursued a subspecialty fellowship in sports medicine at Southern California Orthopaedic Institute, working with Dr. Stephen Snyder, one of the world’s foremost shoulder surgeons.

Dr. Wang is known in the community as an expert arthroscopic surgeon and regularly teaches orthopaedic surgeons how to improve their arthroscopic skills in rotator cuff, shoulder instability, ACL, and meniscus surgeries. He is one of a few surgeons who performs arthroscopic rotator cuff allograft reconstruction for large tears, restoring the tendon anatomy while avoiding the trauma to your shoulder musculature that would otherwise occur from an open surgery.

Dr. Wang has authored numerous articles and book chapters, and has given presentations on shoulder and knee related problems at national conferences. Dr. Wang was awarded an NIH research fellowship grant, as well as a Duke University research grant to support his work in the past.

Dr. Wang is committed to sports medicine and has served as a team physician for the Sacramento River Cats, Duke University men’s basketball team, Sacramento City College, and the Sacramento Capitals World Team Tennis. He is committed to closely working with all patients, whether elite athletes or weekend warriors, to help them return to active lifestyles, using both non-surgical and surgical means.

Dr. Wang is board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and holds professional memberships from the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the California Orthopaedic Association, the Arthroscopy Association of North America, and the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine.

Dr. Wang has always enjoyed the outdoors and became an Eagle Scout in his youth. He is an avid sports enthusiast and particularly enjoys running, skiing, tennis, and basketball.

Testimonials

"I've had the best care with Dr. Wang. Awesome Surgeon! He's kind, very considerate and takes time to hear your concerns and feelings." -Tamara P.

"I would like to thank Dr. Wang for the amazing repair of the torn tendon in my right elbow. I was in a lot of pain for over a year; thinking it was a case of overuse. After explaining in detail what the problem was, as well as the solution; I was scheduled for surgery with in days. I followed all recovery instructions and was told I was healing ahead of schedule. My whole experience with Dr. Wang was stress free and almost pain free at that. I'm ready for the 2016 Mud Run!" -Joy S.

"I would like to take a moment and pass along my sincere gratitude for the services of Dr.Wang and his staff. When arriving to Sacramento Knee & Sports Medicine I had a most painful case of frozen shoulder which not only kept me from activities I enjoy; my work, sleep and general quality of life was greatly affected. Shortly after first seeing Dr. Wang and undergoing surgery, my road to recovery was well thought out and put me on a path to living the life I enjoy so much. Without going into great detail, I would like to again extend my gratitude for services I received. I can easily see why Dr.Wang was so highly recommended." -John L.

"I had a torn meniscus that was repaired by Dr.Wang and his staff. I was initially reluctant to get surgery due to the fact that I work for a major gym and I hear and see a lot of horror stories about botched MCL & ACL procedures, that didn't work or needed a second procedure done. My first doctor told me that surgery wasn't necessary so I took his advice and tried rehabbing my knee with six weeks of various exercises. Two months later and more pain than ever, I decided to get a second opinion and push for an MRI. That led me to Dr.Wang. He explained that I had a mild tear and basically encouraged and reassured me that surgery would be a good option as far as short and long term recovery. Two months later I feel 100% better. I'm able to walk, jog, run and live a normal healthy life style again! I couldn't be more pleased with the results and the overall recovery time. Dr. Wang and his staff have been informative, honest, caring and professional from start to finish. I would highly recommend anyone searching for answers or options regarding a joint injury, to consult through Dr.Wang's office. Thanks for all you do!" -Mike V.

"The results from my MRI indicated a torn rotator cuff so I Googled the internet for highly regarded surgeons and I located Dr.David Wang, who repaired the tear. One of the best decisions I've ever made. Thank you Dr.Wang!" -Stevens P.
